Years after working on Leah’s book, Dead Love I was able to put my problem solving and engineering skills to the test in a different medium, wedding officiating, for her wedding no less. In terms of storytelling and thus DE&I I always try to find interesting ways to tell stories and show how we as people have far more in common than we think. Most people can relate to the idea of love, marriage, and family in one way or another. Those things are also such a big part of our own stories in one way or another and as I result I believe telling those parts of our stories further helps improve DE&I. Ultimately, I feel like it can be difficult to empathize with the things you cannot understand, but by telling stories in a way that is both interesting, yet palpable and relatable we can understand each other better.
